Despite the recent heavy downpours, the Hadleigh Show is on this weekend.

The recent heavy rainfall has meant that many local events have been cancelled due to waterlogged ground. This lead to speculation that the annual Hadleigh Show was in danger of being postponed, however organisers have this week been keen to point out that “the show goes on”.

In actual fact the ground at Gospecks Park is well drained and therefore organisers see no potential problems.

For the first time ever, Hadleigh Show tickets can be purchased online as well as at the usual retail outlets. Visitors to the show’s website www.hadleighshow.co.uk will be emailed their tickets for printing once payment has been received and on the day enjoy fast track entry through the specially designated entrances with scanning facilities. For bookings up to Friday 18th May, visitors can take advantage of the ‘Early-Bird Discount’ which reduces a Family Ticket (2 Adults and up to 3 Children) to just £23.00. 2011 ticket prices have been held and parking in fields adjacent to the showground at Holbecks Park, remains free of charge, ensuring a great day out on the 19th May.
Gates open to the general public from 8am and visitors will enjoy all the features of a traditional agricultural show but with one or two surprises. In the main ring there will be two performances from the Blazing Saddles Stunt Team, for fast and furious riding – hopefully with the youngest Stunt Rider in the UK, Skye Woodward – joining them.

In the Countryside Ring the Mid-Wales Axe Racing Team will be demonstrating their skills in lumberjacking and regular visitor Bob Hogg will be entertaining with his Sheep Dog demos – but this year he is bringing his new ‘Racing Sheep’ to compete in the ‘Lamb National’!

An estimated 12000 visitors attended last year and organisers anticipate a similar turnout on the Saturday 19th May for the 173rd Hadleigh Show, one of the oldest running one-day Agricultural Shows in the country.

The Drinkstone Annual Sale Trail is one of an ongoing series of events being organised by the Village Hall Committee in order to raise funds towards building a new Village Hall, after the previous hall was demolished following a serious fire.

Households around the village (IP30 9SX) will open up their garages from 10am until 3pm to sell their wares, whilst others prefer to sell their bargains from a table-top in All Saints Church. Indoor stalls include a refreshments stall selling mouth-watering home-made cakes, a provisions stall selling home-made cakes/honey/ preserves, etc. and a wide variety of traditional bric a brac stalls.

The Sale Trail is on Saturday 5th May and starts from 10am until 3pm. Admission is free, with a small charge for the maps of the village showing garage sale venues. Toilet facilities (including Disabled facilities) are available in the Church.

• For more information contact Sue Foulsham on 01449 736314

Contemporary Arts and Crafts in an Historic Setting – 20 Quality Exhibitors
Following two very popular previous events Potters and Friends are returning to the Little Hall Museum and Gardens, Lavenham, CO10 9QZ, for another selling exhibition of quality Arts and Crafts all made by the exhibitors.

Potters will be joined by weavers, spinners, printmakers, and other fine artists, including a jeweller and a basket maker, and entrance is free for this special event.

The venue for the exhibition is unique. The Little Hall, one of the oldest timber framed buildings in Lavenham, was built in the 1390s for a family of clothiers. Over the centuries it was added to and changed many times. During the 1920s and 30s it was restored by the Gayer-Anderson brothers who made it their home, filling it with an eclectic mix of antiques, books, ceramics and decorative arts. The Little Hall is a ‘must’ for any visitor to Lavenham and Suffolk.

Outside special events, normal opening hours and other details of Lavenham Little Hall can be found at www.littlehall.org.uk

Opening times for the Potters and Friends exhibition are: Friday 25th May, 6pm – 9pm (Preview evening all welcome), Saturday 26th May to Tuesday 5th June 10am until 4pm.

For further details contact Gill Hedge on gillhedge@gmail.com or on 01787 311590

A truly remarkable and sparkling piece of theatre which celebrates an extraordinary episode in Britain’s history – the Women’s Land Army of World War II.

This delightful and often deeply touching play charts the personal journeys of four women who sign up to become Land Girls, determined to work endless, backbreaking hours on farms across the country in a bid to do their best for the War Effort.

Based on hundreds of letters from and interviews with the original Land Girls, along with songs from the period, Lilies on the Land is a revealing, funny, wonderfully moving and utterly captivating portrait of some of Britain’s pluckiest, unsung heroes. Simply unmissable, this is theatre at its most memorable.

Suitable for ages 9+ years.

21-23 June, Colchester’s Mercury Theatre
BOX OFFICE: 01206 573948

ABBA FOREVER, the top all-live ABBA Show is coming to The Corn Exchange, Ipswich on Friday 23rd March for one night only!
ABBA FOREVER are the UK’s leading tribute band to the world’s greatest pop group. With a six piece band on stage, non-stop dancing, dazzling costumes and an incredible attention to even the smallest of details, ABBA FOREVER recreate the unique ABBA sound to electrifying effect, in this all live show. This is as close to seeing the originals on stage as you will get!

ABBA FOREVER’s uncanny recreation of the ABBA experience has even passed the toughest test there is for an ABBA tribute group – a Swedish audience! “We were nervous about how Swedish audiences would react to us performing as ‘their’ band,” said founder Jane Ellis-Forshaw of their first appearance in the supergroups homeland. They didn’t need to worry, they received a standing ovation and have since sold out 6 tours of the country with audiences stating that they are just like the real thing!

With stunning renditions of classic hits such as Mamma Mia, Waterloo and Dancing Queen, ABBA FOREVER Live in Concert will keep you captivated from the opening sequence to the final sing-along chorus of this two-hour spectacular.

So if you’re in the mood for a dance (and if you get the chance) come along to ABBA FOREVER at The Corn Exchange, Ipswich on 23rd March 2012 at 8pm. Telephone Box Office 01473 433100.

The petite northerner takes us on an unforgettable musical journey in this candid, fun and heart-warming show. A celebration of the legendary artists that have inspired her she tells tales of growing up, her inspirations and why, ultimately, she could not do anything but sing.

Despite her tiny frame Elouise has always had an incredibly powerful singing voice, which ultimately led to her being nicknamed ‘a little belter’ from childhood. Little Belter sees Elouise perform unique versions of classic and epic torch ballads by the likes of Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey and Dusty Springfield. In the show she performs twenty of her favorite songs including unique versions of The Winner Takes It All, Tainted Love, Could It Be Magic, Get The Party Started, Born This Way, Giving Up Giving In, As Long As He needs Me, and many more well-loved gems that have left an indelible mark in our hearts.

Composer Steve Anderson, who has been at the helm of the music direction of the last eight Kylie Minogue tours as well as working on productions for Take That, Westlife, Britney Spears and The Pet Shop Boys, is responsible for Little Belter’s new musical arrangements.

The show is written by novelist and record producer Terry Ronald, part of the creative team behind the West End sensation, The Hurly Burly Show.

No tricks, no gimmicks, just one amazing voice.
“Absolutely amazing!” BBC Radio London
